Why You Should Date Online

11.28.2014 by Elizabeth Hanna Pham // Leave a Comment

My husband and I dated online. We didn’t meet online. He didn’t ask me out online. We didn’t belong to any official dating websites. But we used the Internet as a way to get to know each other better. As soon as I thought my husband was a dating prospect I rushed back home to […]

Missing the Point of Premarital Abstinence

11.15.2014 by Elizabeth Hanna Pham // 1 Comment

I’ve read many articles criticizing premarital abstinence, claiming that it causes all sorts of sexual issues and insecurities. And I believe those issues are real— but premarital abstinence itself is not to blame. It’s more complicated than that. Because premarital abstinence is an unpopular and difficult commitment many people over-glamorize it. They lose sight of […]

On Creeps

09.14.2014 by Elizabeth Hanna Pham // Leave a Comment

He’s kinda creepy. I’ve heard it countless times used to describe countless guys— as if calling them rude or inconsiderate or dumb or arrogant except not— “creepy” is another level of criticism. It’s a branding. A tattoo on a reputation. When a girl hears a guy described as creepy there’s pretty much no way she […]

On Finding the One

05.21.2014 by Elizabeth Hanna Pham // 2 Comments

In the first long conversation I had with my husband I was currently interested (maybe obsessed is a better word) in Myers Briggs and the Four Temperaments. I probably spent thirty minutes asking him questions, analyzing his personality, and mapping it out for him in diagrams. Thankfully, he must not have thought I was too […]

About Me

I'm Elizabeth. I'm a wife, a mother to three little boys, a writer, and a lover and seeker of the beautiful, the true, and the good. I am a believer in idealism-- that even amidst the chaos and the confusion, the exhaustion and the sadness of life there is always joy to be found, hope to be clung to, and a better path to be taken. I write my thoughts on this blog. A link to my fiction book is at the bottom of the page.

About The Name

“There are degrees in idealism. We learn first to play with it academically, as the magnet was once a toy. Then we see in the heyday of youth and poetry that it may be true, that it is true in gleams and fragments. Then, its countenance waxes stern and grand, and we see that it must be true.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

I found this quote well described my own experience– consistently reworking my idealism, being surprised by it, sometimes even losing it only to discover it all the more fully. I know we will never find all the answers, but how thrilling it is to find ourselves getting a little closer to the source and summit of things, a little closer, as we work our way through the “degrees.”
